ARE YOU PLANNING FOR IMPORT OF WEIGHTS AND MEASUREMENT IN INDIA?

HAVE A LOOK FOR THE COMPLIANCES BEFORE IMPORT UNDER LEGAL METROLOGY-

1. Model Approval under the Legal Metrology Act, 2009:

The Legal Metrology Act, 2009 is a single Act covering the provisions of the Standards of Weights and Measures Act, 1976 and Standards of Weights and Measures (Enforcement) Act, 1985. The Act stipulate condition upon Manufacturer and importer for Approval of model of weight or measuring instrument before manufacturing/ import which means no one can import/manufacture the weight or measurement instrument unless  and until the model approval is done.

2. Registration as an importer of Weights and Measurement:

Under Section 19 of the Legal Metrology Act, 2009, the importer needs to get register by applying for registration as importer to the Department.

3. Registration as an importer/ packer under the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011:

It is equally important for the importer to get registration under the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011 as importer or importer cum packer where packaging is to be done in India. Every such person must obtain the packer registration by making the application to the Director or Controller along-with the prescribed documents within a period of ninety days from the date on which he or it commences pre-packaging.

4. Packaging compliance:

The role of packaging is equally important when compared to model approval under Legal Metrology. The Importer must be careful while importing the weight or measuring instrument in India. The Role of packaging is important because the default in labeling and packaging compliances may result in serious repercussions.
